A scarce WW1 Turkish Prisoner of War Beadwork Snake, dated 1917.
This example measuring an impressive 70 inches in length, this is one of the longest examples I have seen. These were produced by Turkish and Ottoman POW's being held in Egypt, to sell to raise money for extra rations, and to pass the time whilst in confinement.
Skillfully produced from coloured glass beads snake, this example has the words "Turkish Prisoner 1917" spelt out on the white belly of the snake in black beads.
Being so long, it has suffered three areas of old repair, and likely some small bead loss. A good honest example, The colours remain bright and the snake is still supple, and a really tactile item to handle.
