A really superb silver plated presentation table lighter, in the form of a grenade.
This example bears a presentation inscription: "Presented to Lt E.T. Taylor F.O.O. From Machine Section No 9 (Edmonton) A.RD. Royal Air Force 1919"
To the reverse is engraved an Observer's brevet.
No 9 Section mainly dealt with Engine repairs, and was formed on the 1st of April 1918.
It would seem that Lt Taylor was an observer, and Forward Observation Officer, although this needs more research, which i shall leave to the new owner.
The lighter itself is in good condition, and free from any scratches or dents. Most of the original silver plate is now absent, revealing an attractive bronze body.
An attractive and unusual piece, with plenty of research potential, from the early days of the RAF.
Measuring 4.75 inches in height, and VERY heavy!
