An 1822/45 Infantry Officers Levee Sword.
This example in need of some work to bring it back to its best. The blade and hilt having been coated in some form of varnish, which has obscured most of the etching. This will need to be removed to bring the sword back up to a good collectors standard.
Regulation 1822 pattern hilt free from deformation, with shagreen grip bound with twistwire, the latter now being loose in places.
32.5 inch blade 1845 pattern blade. The proof slug with a "P" which may denote Pillin as the manufacturer. Some etching visible under the gunk, including a crowned VR cypher and foliate etching. The blades washer is absent.
Housed in a brown leather field service scabbard. This is mostly in good condition, but with a small section of loss. The drag has also begun to roll. The scabbard is a good fit, and likely original to the sword. There are some inked initials under the retaining strap, which may open an avenue for research.
A good original sword which will display well as is, or be improved with some careful cleaning and restoration.
