A good example of an 1831 Pattern Victorian General Officers Mameluke Sword

This example is unusual in that it carries no retailers marking nor manufactureres proof slug. Looking at the elongated ricasso's and etching style, I would date this example to pre 1850.

The regulation gilt brass hilt, with slab ivory grip scales, fixed with rosettes. The crossguard, bearing the general officers badge, mounted within a wreath, and terminating with ball finials.

The curved single-edged blade measuring 30.5 inches, culminating in a double edged yelman towards the point. The finely etched blade bearing a vacant shield escutcheon, foliate etching, including swags of laurel, crowned 'VR' cypher and crossed sword and baton motif.

Overall condition is good. The grips are yellowed and have signs of service wear, but no cracks or chips. The blade firm in the hilt. There are areas of dark staining/old corrosion to both sides of the blade, and active rust under the langets. The blade could be tidied up and improved if desired, or oiled and left "as is".

Housed in it's original brass scabbard with twin hanging rings. These attractive swords display very well, and this is a reasonably priced example, factoring in the condition to the blade.

***Please note, Due to the composition of the hilt, this sword cannot be shipped outside of the UK.***
