1st Lifeguards Trooper’s 1820 Pattern Sword

SOLD

Code: 10114

A scarce Lifeguards 1820 Pattern Trooper's Sword.

Bulbous steel bowl guard with 12 brass studs and engraved with a crowned 1st Lifeguards crest.

37 inch single fullered blade, with a large edge nick toward the blades tip. Blade generally clean, with a grey patina.

Hilt with eared backstrap, domed pommel and shaped leather covered wooden grip, some of the leather now absent and loose. A small amount of play in the riveted quillion.

Scabbard lacking.

One of the hardest patterns of British sword to find, largely due to having had the longest service life of any British regulation sword of the 19th century, being finally replaced in 1882.

These swords are few and far between, and it remains one of the "holy grails" for serious British cavalry sword collectors.

Strictly over 18's only.
