1897 Pattern Welsh Regiment Officers Sword

SOLD

Code: 10156

As may be seen from the images, the sword is in generally very good untouched condition. The 1897 Pattern pattern hilt remains in good shape, the central cartouche bearing the royal cypher of George V. The shagreen grip appears to have been coated with a waterproof black covering, which I have noted on other swords of this regiment. Th grip is 100% complete, and retains all of its twistwire.

The blade, retailed by Flights Ltd, London, Aldershot, Camberly and Woolwich measures 32.75 inches, and bears the usual foliate engraving, the crowned arms of George V, as well as the regimental feathers and words "The Welsh Regiment" along with the motto "Gwell angau na Chywilydd" (Better Death than Dishonour)

Blade generally very good, with bright, clear etching, with some minor blemishes and staining which should polish out.

Housed in its correct brown leather field service leather scabbard, which is a good tight fit. Would benefit from a feed but generally solid.

A handsome, untouched sword, to a sought after regiment.

Strictly over 18's only.
