British 1856 Pioneer Sidearm

SOLD

Code: 10944

A very clean example of the British 1856 Pattern Pioneers Sword/Sidearm.

This imposing weapon has a broad 22.5 inch blade, with a sawback edge measuring 15 inches, and a double edged point of 7 inches. The blade carries broad arrow and WD markings, along with crowned inspection marks to the spine and ricasso.

The brass ribbed grip scales surmount a full width tang, with D shaped guard. The quillion bears later issue markings to the 1st Battalion of the Essex Volunteer Rifles, along with a date of January 1887.

Housed in its correct brass mounted leather scabbard, with WD inspection marks to the rear.

All in all, a very good example, which would be difficult to improve upon.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
