Royal Marine Artillery Officers Sword

SOLD

Code: 10957

A good, untouched example of a Great War period, 1822 Pattern Artillery officers sword, regimentally marked to the Royal Marines Artillery.

This example retailed by "Gieves, Portsmouth, London, Edinburgh and Devonport". The blade is etched with the regimental motto  "Per Mare, Per Terram" and the battle honour "Gibraltar" surmounting the Royal Marines globe device, as well as the George V cypher, vacant escutcheons, hexagonal proof slug, and the usual floral motifs.

Some wear and light pitting, particularly around either side of the ricasso, but generally bright and clean, with all etching visible.

The three bar hilt is nickel plated which remain largely intact, with small areas of loss/wear. It is all quite dirty, and would benefit from a gentle clean and tidy. The shagreen grip is complete, and bound with the correct copper twistwire. Stepped pommel and chequered backstrap.

Housed in its correct pattern of Sam Browne field service leather scabbard, which is in good solid condition, with only minor losses.

Blade length 32 inches.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
