Scarce WW1 GRI 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword

SOLD

Code: 10996

A scarce, and attributed, 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword with GRI hilt.

A very clean example produced by Wilkinson Sword in Febuary 1916, for Lieutenant Charles Holloway.

Charles Arthur Holloway had previously served as a Private in the Somerset light Infantry before gaining a commission in the Indian Army in June 1916.

The sword with 32.5 inch etched blade, showing crowned GRI cypher, royal coats of arms, vactant panels and foliate engraving. Makers details and proof slug to either rciasso. Serial number and "London made" to the spine.

The hilt retaining a good amount of the original plating, clear cypher in the cartouche. The shagreen grip in good condition, and retaining all of its silver twist wire. A good solid sword, no movement to blade and hilt.

Housed in its original scabbard, made of brass with a very thin layer of plating which is almost entirely polished away.

A scarce sword to find, with the bonus of being made by Wilkinson sword, and having great research potential.

Sold with a digital copy of the Wilkinson Proof book page.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
