1827 Pattern Royal Navy Officers Sword

This very pleasing George V example carries no retailers markings, which was not uncommon during the war years, in order to speed up production.

This WW1 period sword retains an excellent 31.5 inch etched blade, displaying the Royal Coat of Arms, the fouled anchor, and the usual floral swags with roped border. It has a coating of old grease, which has helped to preserve it in original condition.

The shagreen grip is all complete, as is the twistwire binding. The hilt retains it's folding guard, which still has plenty of "snap". When folded with scabbard mounted, it locks the sword into the scabbard.

The scabbard is the regulation black leather with gilt mounted brass mounts. It is in solid condition, minor scuffs, and the leather would benefit from a feed, and a proper polish.

The sword comes with the benefit of the original and correct sword knot.

Interesting the quillion bears the naively scratched name of the former owner. This discreet marking would have enabled him to identify his sword from all the other identical examples in the mess. It will also offer the new owner an avenue of research.

All in all a very sturdy and clean example, which with some light cleaning, could be carried by a serving officer again.
