SOLD

Code: 11312

The sword of Reginald Baliol Brett, second Viscount Esher (1852–1930)

A truly fascinating and incredibly important man in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who wielded power at the highest level, and held the ears, and respect, of some of the most important men in Great Britain.

There is lots of information about him online, and a detailed biography of Brett, along with images, may be found here: https://www.artwarefineart.com/gallery/portrait-reginald-brett-2nd-viscount-esher-1852%E2%80%931930-gcvo-kcb-pc-dl-diplomatic-dress-order

This sword dates to December 1901, when Lord Esher was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant  of Berkshire and became Deputy Govenor and Constable of Windsor Castle . He remained close to the royal family until his death.

Edward VII 1897 pattern Infantry officers sword. Regulation hilt with royal cypher. Shagreen grip bound with silver twist wire.

A clean, bright blade with crisp etching. Wilkinson sword address and HW proof slug to either ricasso, vacant panels, floral etching and the crowned cypher of Edward VII.
