1899 Cavalry Troopers Sword 18th Hussars

SOLD

Code: 11423

A very good 1899 Cavalry Troopers Sword in the regimentally marked to the 18th Hussars. This particualr example was reissued to the Royal Horse Artillery. The scabbard retains a good amount of the original drab paint which was applied for the western front.

33 inch single fullered blade, produced at Enfield, the spine marked with the '99 pattern designation, with a plethora of inspection markings to both ricasso's. Showing signs of professional service sharpening along the main edge and the first six inches of the back edge.

The chequered slab leather grips in good condition, and correctly secured with three rivets. Some discolouration and light pitting to the interior and exterior of the bowl guard. Single unit marking of "18 H" which was struck through when reissued to the RHA.

Housed in the correct steel scabbard, with twin suspension rings. Slight deformation to these, as is common with this pattern.

An interesting sword marked to a unit who had a tough time during the Boer War, and then went on to serve in WW1, untouched and as found.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
