Boer War Issue Sergeants Sword

SOLD

Code: 11443

A very good example of a Boer War period Royal Artillery Sergeants Sword

This example bears markings at the ricasso showing it was produced at Enfield (EFD) along with a broad arrown, bend test marking and inspection marking. To the other ricasso is the date '00 for 1900, and further inspection markings.

Being an issue sword, it is likely this sword went on to see service during WW1. Indeed, it would have carried until it was eventually sold out of service.

The hilt is nickle plated silver 1821 pattern, as carried by the Royal Artillery to this day. It is in good condition, minor plating wear and slight deformation. The wire bound shagreen grip is also in good, used conditon.

The plain, single fullered 32.5 inch blade is bright, and shows signs of service sharpening, which may indicate that it saw active service, likely during the Boer War.

Housed in field service scabbard, which again may indicate it being carried on active service. Retaining strap absent.

Overall condition is good, the sword is untouched, some old rust and staining, and would benefit from some TLC to bring it back to collectors standard.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
