Victorian Royal Navy Midshipman's Dirk

£675.00 Approx $839.55, €788.55

Code: 11558

A very good original example of a Victorian Midshipman's Dirk. This peachy untouched example is accompanied by its original oilskin storage bag, and knot.

The hilt with attractive lionshead pommel, the backstrap formed as the lions mane, white shagreen grip bound with brass twist wire, all complete. A good amount of gilt remaining.  The crossguard with acorn finials, and crowned fouled anchor. There is also the chequered release catch button, although the catch of the hook itself is absent. Slight movement in the crossguard.

The 17.25 inch blade, beautifully engraved for three quarters of its length on both sides. Some minor old staining, the floral decoration, crowned VR cypher and fouled anchor is bright and clear.

The black leather scabbard with gilded mounts, the uppermost complete with twin hanging rings. The leather body is solid, and the stitiching intact, but would benefit from a gentle clean and polish.

A very good, early untouched example, which are now proving hard to find.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
