1827 Pattern Royal Navy Officers Sword

SOLD

Code: 11564

This very pleasing George V example was originally retailed by Gieves, Matthews&Seagrove, Ltd.

This name changed in 1919, to Gieve Ltd, so a this sword must date between 1910 and 1919.

This WW1 period sword retains an excellent 31.5 inch etched blade, displaying the Royal Coat of Arms, the fouled anchor, acorns, and the usual floral swags with roped border. It has a coating of old grease, which has helped to preserve it in original condition.

The shagreen grip is all complete, as is the twistwire binding. The hilt retains it's folding guard, which still has plenty of "snap". When folded with scabbard mounted, it locks the sword into the scabbard.

The scabbard is the regulation black leather with gilt mounted brass mounts. It is in solid condition, with some minor scuffs, and the leather would benefit from a proper polish.

The sword comes with the benefit of the original and correct sword knot.

All in all a very sturdy and clean example, which with some light cleaning, could be carried by a serving officer again.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
