1822/45 Infantry Officers Sword With Crest.

£575.00 Approx $716.06, €668.6

Code: 11574

A very good, attributable 1822/45 pattern British infantry officers sword.

The regulation brass hilt of later solid variety, post 1860, in good overall condition, with crowned VR cartouche. The shagreen grip with service wear, but no loss, bound with copper grip wire.

The blade carries the crest of a lion rampant, with the overlaid initials of "Nil Desperandum" which is the crest and motto of the Cookson family. A judicious search of the 1870's army list may well turn up the officer in question, thus opening an avenue for research.

Well executed foliate etching, and crowned VR cypher to both sides of the blade. proof slug to the ricasso, but no sign of a makers or retailers marking.

Service sharpened blade with a length of 32.5 inches. The blade has a noticable curve/bend, but could be realigned if desired.

Housed in its original steel dress scabbard, with twin suspension rings.

Overall condition is good, the sword is untouched, some minor old staining, and would benefit from a good clean to bring it back to collectors standard.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
